Who we are

MetaSpace studios was started in 2016 by Eamon Brown and Brigham Brough.

Brigham grew up in a creative environment as the son of a furniture maker and an oil painter. After graduating Brown University in 2005, Brigham was a founding member of the indie-folk band Elvis Perkins in Dearland which toured internationally for a decade. After the touring slowed down, Brigham returned to his woodworking roots and began working full time at a design-build firm in Providence, RI where he met Eamon Brown.

Eamon grew up on the outer reaches of Cape Cod with a family of carpenters, musicians, and makers. He graduated with an MFA in sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design in 2006. From 2007-2011, he held positions on Boston University, Brown University, and MassArt as an adjunct art professor.

In 2013 Eamon and Brigham struck out on their own and started Coast Modern Construction, a full-service design/build and restoration firm specializing in forward-thinking residential projects. In 2016, with the intention of finding and developing a home base for their business and to create a community space for like-minded artists, designers, and creative souls, they purchased a 30,000 square foot building at 110 King Philip Road In Rumford, RI. They began an immense effort to rehabilitate the building with the aim to provide inspiring spaces for artists and creatives to be comfortable and inspired to create their work. The shared vision of creating an inclusive, supportive and creative community within a building that was renovated to high standards began to come to light.

The building, originally constructed in 1940 and expanded in the early 1960’s, was the former home of W.J. Lynch Paint & Varnish until the early 1990’s when it fell into disrepair and was converted to warehouse storage. The huge, beautiful window openings were concrete blocked up and the exterior of the building and surrounding space taken over by ivy and weeds. Brigham and Eamon, with help from their crew and enlisted trades, redesigned and transformed the empty shell of a building into bright, light filled studio spaces. By late 2019 the building was filled with creative people and energy.

We are fortunate to have uncovered such a special space, grateful for the wonderful group of people filling it, and excited for what’s next!
